Numerous creeks, pools waterfalls and lakes dot the Tweed. Swimming goes on year round at the Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre in Murwillumbah.
Swimming in the Tweed River at Murwillumbah is fine, but too much frolic in one place may wake up a catatonic bull shark thats semi-unconscious on the riverbed minding its own business. Swimming around on the surface though should, in theory, be completely safe. Don’t jumping from the bridge, it’s too shallow. The Tweed River above Bray Park is fine to swim in, there are no sharks above the weir but some platypus, eels, catfish, and so on.
The Aquatic Centre is the place to go, though, for laps.
