Back to the future fun at Tyalgum ‘Diggers’ Family Day, Saturday 17 August

This year’s Tyalgum Diggers is bringing back novelty sports events for all ages. Included from the 1929 program will be the ‘Married Ladies Race’ and ‘Old Duffers over 45 Race’, both over 75 yards. The feature events for adults will be the ‘Tug-o-War’ (lots of categories) and ‘Tyalgum Gift’ foot race, with cash prizes on offer!

For kids they’ll be:

~ A special 4-Way Tug-o-War

~ Boot tossing

~ The Ice Cream Bob

~ Egg & Spoon and Sack Races

~ Little Cowboy and Cowgirl competition

Tyalgum Diggers Family Day 17th August 2013Kids can also check out the Petting Zoo or play Laser Skirmish, or watch the amazing demonstrations of bush skills, horse shoeing or Hapkido.

The program also includes:

~ Fireworks at sunset

~ Market and food stalls

~ Nearest the pin golf

~ Guess the length of the live snake

~ Guess the weight of the banana bunch

~ Vintage Cars

~ Live band and bar till 10 pm

This year’s feature event is a demonstration by a Troop of the Australian Light Horse, who’ll show us how ‘tent–pegging’ is done on horseback with swords and lances! Memorabilia from Tyalgum residents who were members of the Light Horse will also feature. As well, a specially commissioned poem dedicated to the Light Horse will be read by the Tweed’s famous poet, Dennis Scanlon.

The day starts at 11 am and runs until 10 pm. Entry is $10 per family or $3 single.
